Hosting Biotechnology Initiatives
|
 |
In a bid to attract the business community to the biotechnology industry, the leading biotechnology organisations around South Africa jointly established Bio2Biz SA, the annual biotechnology forum.
The founders of the forum are BioPAD, Cape Biotech, LIFElab and PlantBio who jointly organised the first Bio2Biz forum in 2004 held at the Gallagher Estate in Johannesburg.
The forum was held in parallel with the INSITE Exhibition organised jointly with the Department of Science & Technology. Delegates also had the opportunity to attend the Inaugural Phillip Tobias Lecture presented by Prof Sidney Brenner.
Buoyed by its success, Bio2Biz SA 2005 included the National Bioinformatics Network (NBN). The Bio2Biz SA Conference is held annually, with the last forum was held in Cape Town last year. This year sees Bio2Biz SA 2008 moving to Sandton Convention Centre alongside INSITE 2008 and IASP World Conference.
This follows the decision which was made to host the conference at a different city each year allowing local biotechnology organisations the opportunity to attract businesses and stakeholders in their respective regions.
