The Innovation Fund

The Innovation Fund's VISION is of a globally competitive and prosperous South Africa, with a high standard of living for all its citizens. This flows from the Government's National Research and Development Strategy which states the "effective innovation has a direct impact on the reduction of poverty and the improvement of the quality of life of our people. It is critical, therefore, to increase the rate and quality of innovation in South Africa".

To this end, the Innovation Fund has set itself a mission to promote the economic competitiveness of our country through investments in technological innovation that leads to the establishment of new enterprises and the expansion of existing industrial sectors, to the benefit of all South Africans.
Established in 1998 by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and managed by the National Research Foundation (NRF), the Innovation Fund has invested over R665 million rand in 106 projects to date.
